Stir the dry ingredients together in a large mixing bowl.
1 cup (128 g) White whole wheat flour, ½ cup (70 g) Packed brown sugar, ½ teaspoon Baking soda, ½ teaspoon Baking powder, ¼ teaspoon Salt, 1 teaspoon Cinnamon, 1/16 teaspoon (pinch) Nutmeg, ½ teaspoon Ginger, ⅛ teaspoon Cloves
Add the wet ingredients and stir until combined.
1 cup (120 g) Unsweetened applesauce, ½ cup (113 g) Melted butter, 1 large Egg, ½ teaspoon Vanilla extract
Pour the batter into a well greased 8x8 inch or 9x9 inch cake pan.
Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.
Serve warm or cool.
Notes
You can use whole wheat pastry flour (soft white wheat) . You will need 1¼ cups (150 g).If you want a low sugar applesauce cake then reduce the sugar to ⅓ cup.
